Biodiversity Conservation and Rural Livelihoods Improvement Project (BCRLIP)
(Little Rann of Kutchchh Land Scape - LRK) Society

Goal

  • To strengthen and mainstream biodiversity conservation at the Little Rann of Kutchchh landscape level by improving rural livelihoods, learning and its replication, through participatory approaches.
  • To reduce man-animal conflicts about damaging corps by the wild animals through participatory approaches.
  • To improve habitat occupied by the wildlife in LRK landscape, providing better foods and drinking water facilities.
  • To improve livelihoods of the local communities including salt workers, fishermen and grazers by providing better livelihood infrastructures.
  • To reduce negative impact of local communities on the LRK landscape through participatory approaches.
  • To promote community based eco-tourism activities.

Objectives

  • To mainstreaming the traditional knowledge in conservation and livelihood generation.
  • To establish improvement information technology, communication network to support conservation and livelihood planning.
  • Landscape level research and studies to fill the knowledge gaps.
  • Effective management of Wild-Ass Sanctuary.
  • Promotion of educational and awareness campaigns.
  • Capacity building and training programme for staff and local communities.
  • To support and promote community based eco-tourism.
  • To reduce man-animal conflicts.
  • To develop policy for use of natural resources and for allocation of water from canal networks for maintenance of regional ecological stability.
  • To reduce negative impact of salt manufacturing activities, fish catching activities and grazing activities, resulting in degradation of Wildlife habitats.

The State Government shall have the right to nominate any other members in additional to or in substitution of the above.

The Society may co-opt, invite or appoint in the committee any other personal/ representative if it is of the opinion that such action is necessary in the interest of the cause of conservation.

Fund Generation and Utilization

  • Grants and/or Grants-in-aid, recurring and non- recurring, from the Central Government, World Bank, State Government and Local Self Government Bodies etc.
  • Funds obtained through donations from national and international sources.
  • Other sources as may be developed by the society after due permission from appropriate authorities.
  • Fund will be utilized according to provision made in approved Annual Plan of Operation. The Society shall be authorised to utilize funds accrued to it from above sources for various activities as per the objectives of the Society.
