Forest Management

Management of forests is carried out through Working plan of the forests. Working plans are prepared uniformly all over India as per Working plan code prescribed by Government of India. The state has a separate wing for preparation of working plans for different zones of the state. In Gujarat, four senior IFS officers (two Chief Conservator of Forests and two Conservator of Forests) are designated for the preparation of working plans. The area of preparation of working plan is divided between three field units at Table-6.

The work of these three field units is guided & co-ordinated by Addl. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Development and Management, Gujarat, Gandhinagar with the help of Chief Conservator of Forests, Working Plan, Gandhinagar.

Present status of management / Working Plans

At present total Forest area of Gujarat are being managed by 17 Working Plans. Out of these 17 Working Plans 5 working plans are concurrent and Government of India has sanctioned extension of 12 ongoing working plans, and thus, all the working plans are validated. The details of the area covered under various Working Plans are as per Table-7.
